This website was created to celebrate the life and legacy of Keiko the orca. Since his death in 2003 Keiko's journey to freedom and his many years in ocean waters has opened up new possibilities for other captive orcas that share the same fate that he had.
Keiko was the worst possible candidate for release with the exception that he was once free. He still beat the odds and became a free whale again able to make his own choices and do as he pleased in his home. If Keiko could do it then other whales could surely do it. Not all will be releasable, but those animals shouldn't have to live in a concrete pool their whole lives. They should be retired to sea pens where they can live their life out in their home waters, feeling the current on their skin, the noises of the ocean, and never having to perform for crowds with loud music and unnatural behaviors again. This is Keiko's Legacy.
